There were 190 stories up for claiming, which is done from last years total. This isn't surprising, as there are now (at my last count) 14 other big bang challenges in the Supernatural fandom!!! The DeanCas Big Bang is probably the biggest and now entering its third year. There are also many inter-fandom BigBangs as well.
In line with the last couple of years, the number of SPN vs RPF fics is pretty equal (45% to 55%). In SPN fic, again the genre breakdowns have been relatively stable over time, with a slight increase in the slash proportion with the advent of the Dean/Cas pairing. Slash makes up 75% of the SPN fic, Gen 20% and Het 5%. Wincest still dominates making up 52% of all SPN fic and 70% of the slash.
J2 of course dominates the RPF fics. As usual RPF fics are almost entirely romance genre stories. Not that there's anything wrong with that *g* although personally it's not my genre.
One thing I have seen increasing over time, and its particularly noticeable this year, is that many stories involve quite complex world building, and narratives in which the romance sits alongside other plot elements. There's dominance of scifi/fantasy genre intersecting with slave fic and knotting tales. \o/
As ever I love the warnings on Big Bangs and this year didn't fail to disappoint. Some of my favorites were warnings for:
• torture (kinda)
• best friend Genevieve
• allusions to mpreg via egglaying
• graphic description of an x-ray made during a root canal
• two occasions of warning for bottom!Jared
• three warnings for het *eyeroll*
• and the brilliant "Jensen has tufts in this fic"
There were two warnings for Chad – but none for JDM. Has fandom finally got over its fear of Sir?
